Surface preparation is important. Surfaces must be clean, dry, and free of dirt, grease, soap scum, dust, and other contaminants. Remove all loose paint from previously painted surfaces. Previously painted surfaces should be washed with 3 tablespoons of TSP in one gallon of warm water. Rinse and allow the surface to dry completely before sanding with 80- to 120-grit sandpaper. Remove sanding dust before applying paint. Do not apply if the temperature is below 10°C (50°F).
No primer is required on new wood surfaces and previously painted wood surfaces if they are properly primed.
For new balconies, it is advisable to wait 2 to 4 weeks before staining. For pressure-treated wood, a minimum of 4 weeks is required.
Important note: If your patio has a recurring paint or stain problem and the underside of your patio isn't protected by a primer or anti-corrosion coating, our product may not be durable. A fresh coat of the product will not stop the spread of rot. Damaged boards must be replaced before applying the product.
Do not apply if the patio is in direct sunlight or within 6 hours before and after rain. The wood temperature must be below 35°C (95°F) for product application. Surface preparation is important.
