The 2022 Color of the Year forecasts have shown a clear trend, and they see green as a major trend this year. Paint brands and designers have pinned green as the defining shade of the new year, due to its growing popularity as a new neutral in 2021.
In contrast, Pantone is here to introduce a new shade and add some vibrancy to 2022: PANTONE 17-3938 Very Peri, an uplifting and vibrant purple. We didn't see this one coming, but we're officially obsessed with the color.
Pantone describes the color as a shade that exudes "carefree confidence and bold curiosity," a hue sure to spark creativity and bring a fresh perspective to 2022.
"As we enter a world of unprecedented change, the selection of Very Peri brings a fresh perspective and take on the trusted and beloved blue color family," says Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.
Exhibiting the calming qualities of blue while possessing a reddish-purple undertone, Very Peri is bold, creative, and imaginative. Since blue is typically a calming shade, Pantone wanted to capture some of these qualities while introducing a fresh perspective.
Very Peri is a striking contrast to Pantone's 2021 selections, Ultimate Gray and Illuminating, a balancing gray and a joyful yellow. These colors were both grounding and optimistic, embodying a message of hope and strength for 2020. Veri Peri is strong in its own right, but much more confident in its boldness and creativity.
As the world continues to emerge from this most challenging time and long periods of isolation, this color brings inspiring days. Veri Peri was selected with this in mind: to embrace how the world has changed and inspire a new era of positivity, one that now blends our physical and digital lives. These factors have merged in ways we couldn't have predicted, but Pantone believes Very Peri reflects digital design and the new color possibilities to explore in the new year.
